The Leatherback Lodge - Trinidad's Base Camp for Birders

The Leatherback Lodge is perfectly situated with easy access to all the major birding locations in Trinidad. Tours can be arranged with the best bird guides in the business or for those who prefer a more relaxed approach we can take you on a personal tour of all the major centres.  In December 2014 one birder spotted 30 different birds ..... Yerette Hummingbird Centre - 3 hours

A retired couple, Theo and Gloria, have created a world famous centre at their home in the beautiful Maracas Valley. Visited by no less a person that the wife of the President of China during their state visit in 2013, the sight of hundreds of humming birds and the incredible slide show given by Theo make this a firm favourite with our guests.

Scarlet Ibis Caroni Bird Sanctuary Boat Ride - 3 hours

To see the national bird of Trinidad & Tobago coming home to roost in flocks numbering in their hundreds is an amazing sight. Your boat ride with Nanan's Scarlet Ibis Tours will take you through the heart of the mangrove swamp where you may see many of the creatures that call the area home.

Point-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust - 4 hours incl. guided tour and packed lunch.

Astoundingly, artificial lakes created by Trinidad's major petrochemical plant and oil refinery have provided sanctuary for countless numbers of wild fowl! Now they are protected by the Point-a-Pierre non-profit, environmental NGO, dedicated to the research, breeding and translocation of endangered wetland birds into existing natural wildlife areas in Trinidad and Tobago. You will be blown away by this oasis of life in the midst of industry, proving that their co-existence is possible!

Asa Wright Nature Centre - 5 hours incl. local snacks

Known world wide for the famous "Oil Birds" which live in caves in the lush rain forest hillside, the trip to Asa Wright takes us through verdant valleys with stunning views of tropical rain forest. A guide will take you down a leafy trail pointing out many of nature's wonderful creatures. To see the Oil Birds, please contact us in advance as it may involve an overnight stay in one of the very nice cabanas there.
